Our Vision and Mission

OUR VISION

Our vision is to build a multi-generational congregation that will reflect the diversity of our community as we strive to demonstrate the difference Jesus makes to our life, our church, and our community here and afar.

OUR MISSION

We don’t have an elaborate plan or a business model of what we’re going to do for you if you come to The Bridge. That’s not to say we don’t have ministries or goals and that we’re poorly organized. But who we are and what we do revolves around two questions: What does it mean to be the church? What does it mean to be the church in NJ?

“Know Thyself.” This was a common Greek saying about the importance of self-awareness and understanding one’s true identity because being precedes doing. The church’s first task then is to interpret from Scripture our new identity as the people of God (2 Cor 5:16-17). The day a person becomes a Christian, he or she not only entered into a relationship with Jesus but also into a family. Their personal spiritual journey and that of the church are inseparably linked. We contend that this is not the normal or natural way of thinking for most people; even those who have been to church for a long time. Our mission here is discovering the wonderful world of grace and all of the resources God makes available to us for grow with and in this family. Contrary to the spirit of consumerism and individualism that pervades our society, the church invites us to find our identity and take our place in a journey with God that started on the day of creation.

If the first question is one of identity, then the second is about methodology. The church exists in a culture that provides opportunities and obstacles to living out our calling. Our task then is to discern how we can love our neighbors and do the good works God created us for in a way that exalts the gospel and demonstrates the kingdom of God is breaking into our world. Our mission is to do what Jesus would do if he were living in our city. We want to serve our community not so that we can make the church believable but to demonstrate that God believes in us and has a plan to redeem and restore all those he has made and loves.

We think asking and answering these two questions will take us on an exciting journey. If you’re up for the ride, we hope you’ll come join us in the adventure.
